Luminosity advance to the Group A final after defeating Liquid 2-0 (Mirage 16-6, Nuke 16-12) in the group semi-finals.
After the last matches of Group A were played out yesterday, it was time for the group's semi-finals, starting with Liquid in an uphill battle against Luminosity, current number one in the world.
For this stage the veto process goes back to basics, and we saw Mirage coming out as the Brazilians' pick, understandably. The favoured team started out being down 0-2, but an eco victory set off a five-round streak, which included three anti-ecos (or very light buys).
Nick "nitr0" Cannella and Eric "adreN" Hoag then combined for five kills for Liquid's third round, but Luminosity replied right back with three rounds in a row. Kenneth "koosta" Suen and Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo then gave each team one round thanks to AWP triples, and shortly after Luminosity switched over with 10 rounds on the board.
Lincoln "fnx" Lau kicked off the second half with an all-headshot triple opening, helping his team finish off what they had started as Liquid only picked up a single round on their Terrorist side, on the back of Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski's quad-kill.
Luminosity so far undefeated in ELEAGUE
Liquid pulled out a pocket-pick for map two, which was Nuke, a map the Brazilians admitted to practising prior to the start of the league.
The beginning of the revamped map saw a return of CZ-75 in the pistol round and Spencer "Hiko" Martin found an all-headshot triple with it in a blink of an eye on the A bombsite. After losing the two following rounds, Luminosity found a way back into the match with three in a row.
adreN then defused the bomb in a 1v1 situation, putting his team up to an eventual 7-3 as their opponents attempted a couple of unsuccessful forcebuys. Hiko continued with great play towards the end of the half, which saw Liquid switching to Terrorists at 10-5.
However, Luminosity put up an even better defense, getting seven rounds to their name while fnx was on fire (26-11 at the time), before Liquid mustered two rounds together to tie it up at 12-12. It was all for nothing, however, as the Brazilians didn't let go of any more rounds and ended Liquid's hopes of qualifying for playoffs at 16-12.
